Day 26 - "So Good"

Day 26 is back again with yet another music video from their sophomore project, Forever In a Day (Bad Boy/2009). I'm trying very hard to have some nice things to say about this video; and I'm at a loss for words. However, the video IS NOT bad. In a constructively criticizing way, the video deserves a concept to say the least. This also happens to be one of the most inexpensive videos I've seen since this track by Digital Imagez. And even that video is more interesting than "So Good". Maybe if Diddy and the group spent an extra $137.16, I could appreciate the video that much more. Enough of me, enjoy the video!

My favorite tracks are "Itis"...this track is a nice, feel-good, snap your finger, and sip on a glass of wine or Brandy and call it a day. 40th NCAAP Image Awards and Post Gala

I can finally breathe! Finally. These past 42 hours have nothing but complete, yet organized, chaos!

It all started when I received a text message around 11:30pm-ish from a friend who said, "What are you doing tomorrow at 5? I have tix to the NAACP Image Awards but I can't go. Would you like them?" After a brief Q&A with my good friend Bri, I accepted the tickets. EVERYTHING after that was on fast forward. I immediately texted my Dad and my relative GK saying, "If you read this before you go to work, ditch and take the day off! I have tix to the Image Awards and want you to come." My pops couldn't make it, so GK made the drive from San Diego to LA to come hang with the stars.

We rolled up on the Shrine Auditorium and what was just another day for me was heaven for GK! The NAACP was celebrating its 100th birthday by having Tyler Perry and Halle Berry (call me) host the awards. Let me be the first to say that everyone was looking beautiful in the vicinity! I was doing my best to keep all my people updated via Twitter (follow me!). Vanessa and Angela Simmons were as beautiful as ever. GK damn near fainted over Taraji P. Henson. Somebody's mama and auntie who was loud and ghetto kept yelling out, "Will I love you baby!", from the back row at the top of the balcony (I think she got her tickets extra late!). Rosario Dawson lowkey gave me that, "I want you" look. GK couldn't stop winking at Keke Palmer. Afterwards I said hello to my good friends Kenny Lattimore and Chante Moore. GK is still drooling over Taraji P. Henson and out of nowhere feels the need to vent to me about how his barber in San Diego couldn't fit him in for a line up before he came up to LA.

Bro man vents for at least 20 minutes until I told him, "Stop acting like a *expletive*. You lost one dawg. Let's go to Roscoe's (Pico & LaBrea!"

On the way to Roscoe's my boy Slav hits me up and wants me to roll with him to the red carpet of the XBIZ Awards (if you don't know those are, Google it). Sounds cool right? Right! Well, GK isn't familiar with the XBIZ Awards, so when I told him what they were, he suggested we make a change of plans. Those change of plans were...

NAACP Image Awards Post Awards Gala at The Beverly Hilton (same place where Clive Davis held his Pre-Grammy Party). As always when too many black folks are in one place at one time, everyone starts trippin and security wants to get like D-Bo on everyone. Homie don't play that! Eventually we got inside and the party was jumpin jumpin (Sorry, I had to borrow that one Bey). Biz Markie was on the 1's and 2's and folks (including someone's mom, dad, auntie, uncle, and grandparents) were on the dance floor straight gettin it! I swear it was one of the flyest after parties, or should I say parties period, that I have been to since moving to Los Angeles. Sidenote: Omarosa is one funny bunny! Her and I were at the same beach house party in Malibu for a party on the 4th of July in Malibu and she was knockin back the liquor. LOL, I love that woman. Last night was no different, you could have sworn babygirl was at prom once again and her parents said, "Behave yourself", but she wasn't tryin to have it! LOL at good times those were. GK had the biggest eyes I've ever seen that night when he laid them on Tichina Arnold who was backin it up on some 20-something-year-old guy who thought he could handle her. I give GK my Flip Camera and he proceeds to record and about 15 seconds into the recording, Tichina goes "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" on GK and damn near shoves the camera out of her face! LMAO, I couldn't hold it in. It was too funny! We keep dancing and Lil JJ rolls onto the dance floor and we're all bustin moves! The single ladies weren't ready for us UNTIL...Beyonce's "Single Ladies" came on and the ladies felt as if the fellas weren't shhhhhh...it (sound it out). I post up on the wall and attempt to relax while I sip on my Ciroc/Cranberry drank that I got from the OPEN BAR (excuse me!? Did someone say "Open Bar?" Music to my ears.)

The party starts to dwindle down and I'm feelin myself a bit too much and my bed is calling me. I took a few pictures before I dipped and headed back to The Valley. I don't know how I made it home because I was all over the 405 North, but I made it...thank you Jesus! I hit the sack at 2am and wake up at 5 and today was all she wrote.

Now I'm off to a housewarming party, so I shall holler at ya'll on the next one. Let the beat drop, I'm out!

Breaking News: DeJuan and John Ly Agency Part Ways

It's official, your boy DeJuan is NO LONGER represented by the John Ly Agency in Hollywood, CA. In an email sent yesterday, John Ly wrote, "...I wish you the best in your schooling and career." In response, I ask for nothing but the best for the John Ly Agency in their endeavors to survive in the terrible television and film industry.

Since working in agreement with the John Ly Agency, I have taken on many personal projects in an effort to further launch my journalistic craft before I graduate in May. After just a couple short months of working together, both sides decided it would be time to go our separate ways - a move that was beneficial for both parties.

Truth be told, not being with the agency allows me more time to complete my relationship book, continue working on my sitcom, and many other personal projects.

I am NOT retiring from acting, modeling, or hosting - in fact, not having an agent anymore will give me more flexibility to pick and choose the projects I feel will put me in a light that is acceptable to my standards.

I woke up this morning around 7am anxiously awaiting the Inaugural Day festivities and shortly after found tears making their way down my cheeks and onto my bedspread - history was being made in front of my own eyes. Monday morning I was in San Diego attending the 21st Annual Martin Luther King Jr.All People's Breakfast and again realized the magnitude of this historic event. Here I was, an ambitious 22-year-old journalist, sitting at my table fighting back tears of joy, pain, and happiness as I listened to speakers from around the country talk about how far we've come, how much farther we need to go, and what we can do to get there. Monday's breakfast replayed over and over in my mind as I watched Barack Obama being sworn in as the 44th President of the United States of America. From this day on, I can truly tell people they can be ANYTHING they want to be and really mean it. I look forward to the day that I have children and grandchildren and to be able to look them in the eyes and tell them the exact same thing. To all of the A Day in the Life of DeJuan readers from across the globe, thank you for allowing me to be who I am today with no reservations. My President is Black and I shall forever remember the events that transpired up to and including today and join all of you in welcoming Barack Obama as our 44th President. Welcome, Mr. President!

CSUN Students Share an Experience with Karrine Stffans

Yes, that's right. It's true! Last Thursday at California State University Northridge, Karrine Steffans packed a room to capacity - and I do mean capacity (fire marshall was ready to shut it down) to speak on her experiences in the hip hop industry.

When I first heard about the event, which I was asked to moderate, I was nervous and excited at the same time. I've had my fair share of nervous assignments, but this one took the cake. When the clock struck 3:45pm on Thursday, November 20, 2008, it was showtime for me and Ms. Steffans.

Everything seemed to be going well until a female CSUN student gave Karrine an earful of her colorful opinions she had been saving for Steffans. You can view the video below.

Later during the question-and-answer forum, Steffans continued to stress points that many of the students either weren't understanding or chose not to embrace.

Now for my opinions...I think it's important to keep in mind that none of us are perfect - myself included. I'll be surprised if the Good Lord even allows me to wear white on my wedding day if I'm ever so lucky to get to experience such a fulfilling and wonderful, life-changing event. I also must say that it's not about what she's done but more about what she's doing now. After the event I spoke with Karrine and she told me she enjoyed herself and had a great time but wishes people would check themselves before attempting to check someone else.

Her motto: "Just because you started off wrong, doesn't mean you won't end up right."

Have and show some respect for a woman trying to reshape her image. Every Sunday we listen to pastors preach; many of them had their fair share of "inappropriate behavior." So what makes her so different?? Nothing.

MTV's 2 and a half hour finale of TRL entitled "Total Finale Live" was the business! I enjoyed the BET Rap City finale and after that figured the TRL finale was going to be...drumroll please...boring! I retract my thoughts that never went public to say that Total Finale Live was amazing! Never have I seen the network dedicate so much time to the importance of music to music fans everywhere. I am at a loss for words almost because the show was so good that I don't want to say anything to discredit the show. In case you missed it, check your local listings for possible re-runs. May TRL rest in peace. Another one of my dreams (being able to host TRL) has been shattered. But as the saying goes, "out with the old and in with the new."

Thank you TRL for the countdowns, celebrity guest hosts, and summer beach houses (especially the one in San Diego w/Busta Rhymes). The ride was fun and we rode till the wheels fell off! Thank you, thank you, and thank you...

I know many of you are probably thinking, "I didn't even know Rap City was still on." After Big Tigger left, it seemed as if the show went downhill with hosts J Nicks, Mad Linx, and Q45.

The show, which first aired in 1989, was BET's longest running show and has been an iconic staple for artists rhyming their way into the rap game. The finale was somewhat bittersweet for me because yours truly was actually looking forward to hosting the show one of these days. That's not going to happen now - at least on Rap City.

The finale included appearances from Bow Wow (I'll see you when I see you), 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes (Yahh yahh yahh yahh), LL Cool J (fresh outs kidd!), Wu Tang Clan (diversify ya bonds ni**a), Jim Jones (pop champagne!), Juelz Santana, Nas, and Weezy (don't forget the F) all had a few words for the show's ending.

Hosts for Rap City were Joe Clair, Chris Thomas, Prince Dajour, Big Lez, Big Tigger, J Nicks, Mad Linx, and Q45.

T.I. Put His Vote In...Who's Next?

In less than a week we will VOTE FOR CHANGE on the 42nd and next President of the United States of America. Last night, Presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama aired a 30-minute advertisement focusing on America's economy and what needs to be done. I believe his advertisement was inspiring and informative as I clapped and shouted during the key points of his pitch.

T.I. exercised his right to vote yesterday in Georgia. "Now rather than just talking about it, I'm being about it. I'm leading by example, and it makes me feel a lot better", he said in an interview. TIP also mentioned that this was the first time in his life that he's ever voted. Originally he thought he was unable to vote because he is a convicted felon, but after researching Georgia law, it read that only people on probation or currently serving a prison sentence are not allowed to vote.
America, if you don't plan on voting early, NOVEMBER 4TH IS THE DAY! My suggestion is get to the polls as early as you can so you can ensure your vote counts. Get there before it opens even if you can! Whatever you do, VOTE VOTE VOTE!!

Jesse McCartney Music Video

What's good America!? Big ups to my new readers in Rhode Island...welcome to the fray. I hope you all enjoy. I'm going to jump right in it today and get started.

Quick recap: I landed a spot in Jesse McCartney's "It's Over" music video. The shoot was Monday 10/20 in the heart of Hollywood and it went a little something like this:

12:35pm - Left the dry cleaners and headed to set.

1:00pm - Arrived on set and was welcomed by a bevy of beautiful college-aged women and my friends at craft services (craft services are the people who prepare all the snacks for the actors and crew throughout the day). I headed up to the Penthouse Suite in the Roosevelt Hotel where I would be staying throughout the day in between shots. The suite offered a panoramic view of Los Angeles - incredible!

4:15pm - After sitting for over 3 hours doing nothing, we head to the roof of the hotel to get ready for a cafe scene. It was in this scene that I was paired with a beautiful girl named Tarniesha, from Ohio, who was rockin her purple outfit! In our seats we would sit and sit, play musical chairs, and sit some more.

5:00pm - Still sitting in the cafe scene on the roof and a single camera hadn't been rolling so they decide to send everyone to lunch/dinner.

5:15pm - Dinner in the suite was delicious. You already know I had a fix for some good food; by that I mean salads, white dinner rolls, fruit (watermelon even! ohhh yeeaaahhh!!), tomatoes with some weird pebbles in it, rice pilaf, tortellini with pesto sauce, chicken, and roast beef. Product placement goes here: I washed it down with a refreshing Coca-Cola beverage.

5:50pm- Back to the cafe we go to shoot for reals this time. I was lowkey jealous because Tarniesha was getting her shine on with the camera and I wasn't. But it's all love; Haterade doesn't come in a flavor I like. We stayed on the roof for about 20-30 minutes before heading back inside the suite.

6:40pm- 1st power nap.

7:50pm - Headed back to the roof for the performance scene. Let me tell you, thank you Robert Fess for making such comfortable and warm men's blazers. I was sooo cold up on the roof for this scene. They separated me and Tarniesha (something about too many negros at a Jesse McCartney show...lol, OK I'm lying). We stayed up here for about 45 minutes or so...

8:10pm -Actors Anonymous. I didn't know the set was where your inner most deepest secrets are exposed. "So tell me about your last relationship and why it was so abusive", asked one actress to the other. I swear it felt like a Dr. Phil/Tyra Banks episode in that suite.

9:15pm - Filmed a short creepy scene inside the suite only to have this actress spill some champagne on my wonderful shirt that I just got out of the dry cleaners. All bad.

10:45pm - Been doing nothing for a cool minute. So, I get comfortable and take a nice long nap (and I was still getting paid fyi).

11:52pm - I woke up from my nap. Still on set and no new directions. Tarniesha was knocked out! (you know I had to tell em)

1:30a (Tuesday) - Go down to the street for the final street scenes. The temperature is beyond bearable, but being that it was the last shot, I sucked it up and acted like a G. Hollywood Boulevard is wild, even at 2am when knuckleheads drive up and down the street demanding attention from people...I've been ready to go since after I ate!

2:30am (Tuesday) - "That's a wrap folks! Thank you for being so patient...", said the 1st A.D. Those words were music to my ear. I got to my car and headed home.

3:10am (Tuesday) - Got to the house and underneath the sheets...as soon as I publish this post and ya'll see a timestamp for it; that's the time I went to sleep...so until then, goodnight!

Ahh!? Da Bolts? On the Set?

What's good my people - America, I love ya'll. Let's keep this brief.

Saturday night Diznee and I, along with her mother and a family friend went to the Haunted Trail at San Diego's Balboa Park. Tell me why there was a 2-hr wait!? Hell naw!! Half those folks were out past curfew.

My San Diego Chargers are now 3-4 on the year. We could very easily be 5-2 (Houchili, or however you spell it, blew the call). Anyways, we lost to the Buffalo Bills today. What makes it worse is that I couldn't even watch half of the game to root for da Bolts! Somebody's gonna have an email come Monday morning.

Finally, it feels good to be back in the swing of things. This time last year, I was busy with project after project. Then the writers strike hit and almost everyone was out of work. Well it's that time of the year when the work is rolling in (Praise the Lord). Today I have an audition for "something being kept secret". Tomorrow I will be in Jesse McCartney's (who is he?) "It's Over" music video. God is good. Let's prau I stay busy with this.

ABFF Wrap Up

Hello everyone! Your boy is back yet again to dish the latest serving of the hottest happenings in Hollywood.

This time I bring you recap of a film screening at the 2008 American Black Film Festival in Beverly Hills last Friday. I went with a friend from Fox to see "Love for Sale" starring Jackie Long, Jason Weaver, Mya, Melyssa Ford, Essence Atkins, Clifton Powell, Shawty, and more. The movie was about a young man (Jackie Long) who was involved with 2 women who he became intimate with. Little did he know that both women knew each other. His uncle's studio was also facing foreclosure and Jackie's character and supporting character (Jason Weaver) enlisted the support of friends and family to keep the studio open.

I actually enjoyed the screening, which was attended by some nearly 50 people at Beverly Hills' Beverly Center. The movie had its ups and it definitely had its downs, but overall the movie was tolerable; for lack of a better phrase. Expect to see the release hit shelves sometime this Fall.

I was especially excited to finally meet Mya. For those who know me or have known of me for quite some time, I'm sure you are well aware that she is my celebrity crush. I told everyone who thought I was crazy that I'd meet her one day - Friday was that one day.We exchanged a few words and took a picture and I went home with a smile on my face. Turns out 08-08-08 was really.a lucky day for me. So where's the picture you might ask?? Well, some dufus (that dufus be me) misplaced the camera and hasn't seen it since Monday. My heart is broken.

I can replace a camera, but I can't replace the picture. Therefore I'm starting a donation fund to help me get a new camera. All interested, please email me. Thanks! Lol, this is embarrasing.

Bernie Mac Dead at the Age of 50

"America!? Lemme tell ya somethin!"

God bless Bernie Mac. I'm sure most of you are already aware of what happened. I am at a loss for words right now. Someone told me that they really weren't in to Mac and they didn't quite understand his jokes. So I responded by saying, "As an African American, I grew up with Bernie Mac. He's a part of my family just as much as my own relatives. I identified with him on so many levels that I too am saddened."

Bernie Mac was such a staple in the lives of many Americans. I invited Mac into my home on numerous occassions. To know that Mr. 3000 is no longer going to be able to play in the game is a loss for all us. Bernie, thank you so much for the tears of laughter, the laughter through hard times, and especially your valued relationships you had with each and every one of us. You are gone, but you are NOT forgotten. Peace is love. God bless!

David Banner/Lil Wayne Music Video Shoot

Hey People!

Yo, call me a blog addict and I don't care/with sicilian nigerian hair/i'd like a girl with a round darierre/ha ha...I'm just playin ya'll. Allow me to get to the point.

I know you looked at the title like "what's this all about?" Well the blog is about exactly what it says. In my previous blog, I excluded Wednesday's activites in order to write about them today. Now the question is "Where Do I Start"?

I arrived in downtown Los Angeles (and a little too close to East LA) to the set of "Shawty Say" around 5:30pm Wednesday to a bevy of beautiful women, BMWs, Masarati's, and David Banner's Bentley. When I got there, everyone was on dinner break, and the crew was moving equipment around. After being on set for close to 2 hours or so with little activity, things started to get crackin! I'm tellin ya'll, being a very eligible bachelor in LA and all these beautiful, and hopefully single, women looking extra sweet, I was in heaven on earth.

The song "Shawty Say" was produced by David Banner and is a definite club banger and a certified track to listen to with the diamond in the back with a gangsta lean and all that.

Finally Lil Wayne arrived on set via an extra long tour bus. The Best Rapper Alive stepped off the bus with a styrofoam cup in hand and a swagger to compliment. Weezy looks exactly the same in person as he does on TV and in the magazines. I couldn't believe that Wayne was here on the set, David Banner was here on set, the Tererro brothers were on set, I was on set, and all these beautiful women were on set...FREE FOOD was on set! LOL, I'm sayin I was big chillin. And that was on the real choppalini (I see you Gangsta Gold Macnificent).

I'm sure many of you are wondering what was I doing on set. Well, my roommate and good friend, Chelsea aka Diznee was one of the girls in the video. The both of us had a wonderful time! She was all made up and had wonderful wardrobe selections...I'm tellin ya'll it was heaven on earth.

Because of the extremely high exclusivity of the shoot and not knowing when the video will come out, I can't go into too much detail. But please believe me when I say, THE VIDEO WILL BE CRACKIN!!!! I posted a couple pictures for ya'll to check out that you might see when the video hits the airwaves and the internet. Check it out! Shawty say that ni**a that she wit aint sh*t!

2008 BET Awards Celebrity Billiards Bash

Welcome back! I'm so glad you're back here with me. Hopefully everyone is enjoying their weekend and they're ready for the week ahead...I know I am.

Anyways, many of you saw the title and I'm sure you're wondering what that's all about. The 2008 BET Awards is in Los Angeles on Tue. June 24, in case you didn't know or forgot, and on Saturday June 21 BET held a Celebrity Billiards Bash. Well, if you know me, then you already know I was there! I have interviews with some of your favorite actors and artists, as well as exclusive photos.

The event was being touted as the perfect way to celebrate the start of BET Awards '08: The Hottest Ticket on Television. 32 celebrities competed in a "win or go home" format until the final round when it becomes a "Best of Three" series. The winner received a brand new 2009 Dodge Journey for the charity of his/her choice, artwork by Jerry Prettyman, a 24k gold iPod from Amosu Designs, and a handmade, custom-designed teddy bear by Bobby Joseph.

Let's get to the interviews. First on the scene was Eric Benet, who looked like he doused himself in baby oil and patted himself down with a bath towel, but was still fly to say the least. Eric and I spoke for a little bit on the red carpet.

DeJuan: Eric, what's going on!? What's new with you my guy?

Eric: Just working on a new single. My album comes out Sept. 2nd...so be on the lookout for that.

DeJuan: That's what's up! You know I'll have to go out and get that and avoid LimeWire. Would you consider yourself R&B or Neo-Soul? I find many artists decide to flirt with that label. Is there a need to choose sides, per se?

Eric: I consider myself R&B. It's basically a tribute to the guys I admire the most; Marvin Gaye, All Green, and Stevie Wonder.

Eric was a pleasure to interview. Contagious energy with an attitude to match. Eric is still making it happen. NEXT UP is the one, the only, Jackie Long (ATL).

DeJuan: Yo! What's happening with you chief?

Jackie: DeJuan the one! Man, I've been blessed. I just finished "Doorman". Working on "Soul Men" (Bernie Mac, Samuel L. Jackson). An independent DVD I shot called "Love for Sale" starring Mya and Melyssa Ford. And "Hurricane Season" featuring Forrest Whittaker. So definitely I've been blessed.

DeJuan: I've heard talk of a production company. Speak on it.

Jackie: Yes sir, I'm a producer also. God has put me in a position and like I said, I'm just blessed. I'm trying to take it to the top...I love to develop and create.

DeJuan: There's a video going around on the net where Diddy is going off on your hairline.

Jackie: (laughs) Aww man, you one of them. (laughs) I'm out! Naw man, what's up though?

DeJuan: I wasn't laughing at you, I was laughing with you and at myself. I feel your pain. You're on set and the set barber is all they got. Or you're out of town and you don't have a choice. You see [the barber] got me too.

Jackie: Yeah I see that. He took you back a little bit too far too. Better watch out. But you good, you good.

BET personality, LAMORNE, was also on hand to support the event. We remembered each other from the awards last year, so we just talked about how far he has come and how much he's loving life.

Lamorne: Life is good. I'm trying to get some street credibility...I'm having fun because I get to do what I wanna do. I've come a long way...it's kinda cool.

LANCE GROSS (Calvin from "House of Payne")

Lance: DeJuan! What's up dawg?

DeJuan: You man! OK, so I got a little bone to pick with you my guy. A while back before the filming of "House of Payne", I get hit on my sidekick for auditions for your character, Calvin, on the show. I submit and make sure my agent does what he has to do. Obviously I don't get the gig. I watch the show and shoot myself in the foot. Dude has got my role! I was hot! (Lance laughs) But I must say you are truly gifted. Keep doing what you do! Because you're good at it. I'm proud of you man.

Lance: Well thank you, I appreciate it. It's a blessing and I consider myself very fortunate. Tyler Perry has given me an opportunity to showcase my talent...he pulled me out of class and got me. [Tyler Perry] is a wonderful dude. Anything he touches turns gold. He's given me wonderful opportunities. And I'm thankful for that.

For those interested in gossip, Lance Gross and Eva Pigford are indeed an item. They make a wonderful couple. I pray continued success for the both of them.

Lastly, for this blog, was my very intimate with Lauren London. Most of ya'll already know I'm crushin on her, and if the opportunity arose, she would have received her last, first kiss; given by me of course. But it didn't quite work out that way. Nonetheless, we both had a great time on the carpet. And here's what made the blog.

DeJuan: Miss London. Check you out lookin all beautiful. It's been a year since we've met. I know you miss me. And I'm sure so much has happened.

Lauren: Yes yes. Finished a fim in Vancouver not too long ago called "I Love You, Beth Cooper". I'm starring in "Next Day Air" which is slated to come out very soon. I'm a spokesmodel for Sean John and we just finished the Fall line...we had to wear boys clothes! (laughs) I'm glad to be out here tonight, I'm having a lot of fun.

DeJuan: I see that. That's good. Real quick, because I know all the guys want me to ask you this question. What's your status lookin like (winks eye)?

Lauren: I'm single.

DeJuan: (eyes get big) Very much so?

Lauren: Very much so.

DeJuan: (eyes get bigger) Single and chillin or single and lookin?

Lauren: Single and chillin.

DeJuan: Well it's been fun.
